Walking amongst Scholars

Day Trip from London Take One!

For one of the program excursions, I ended up helping out with a trip to Oxford. I have been to Oxford once before for work, but that was such a whirlwind that I was glad to go back for a bit more of a toursity visit.

We left early-ish Saturday morning with about 50 students in tow. It was a bit drizzly and cool the entire day, but perfect for all the walking we ended up doing.

Oxford isn't too far away, so it made for a fantastic little trip outside of the city. It is such a quaint town, filled with incredibly history, very smart people and such rich tradition. The day we were there was graduation day for one of the colleges, so students were decked out in their gear. After the ceremonies there is some sort of massive celebration that includes lots of shaving cream, random toys and other trinkets. Work hard, play hard I guess.

We took the students on a tour of one of the colleges----it's hard not to imagine yourself as a student there, all academic and studious. The grounds of every college are just beautiful and lush and green. There's the small river where you can punt on a boat----it was fun watching people try and do it.

In the afternoon, we had some free time, so I grabbed some lunch and a drink at the famous Eagle and Child Pub where writers like JR Tolkien and CS Lewis would hang out----and grow into the geniuses that that are.

I love all the history and just walking around in the footsteps of our past. So inspiring!
