Cricket for Dummies

Last night, for one of the cultural events, we took the students to a Cricket Match. Now I must admit that before going, I knew nothing about (and I must admit, that I still know nothing about Cricket). However, it was a gorgeous night, so why wouldn't we want to be outside for a few hours.

Cricket Matches can last a good few days, and now that I've been to one of the shorter versions, I can see why (though I still don't understand why...)

I do know a few things for sure:

1. Cricket is somewhat hard to follow. There are two members of one team hitting what seems to be endless balls all over the field. There are about 10 players from the other team trying to catch those balls and get the players out. I don't know how they get out, but at some point, they do.

2. People are well-dressed at Cricket. Lots of business attire.

3. Cricket has some random food. I ate a thing called a "UFO" It was basically a calzone version of a hamburger.

4. The crowd seems to root for both teams. Why? I do not know.

I have to say, I left after what I assumed to be the first inning or quarter or whatever it is called, so I'm not 100% sure how the game finished. It was a great game to see, but I don't think I'll need to be going back to anytime soon.

It was fun, however, to see the British culture at work.
