I have to admit, Boston is a cool town. I flew in two days before the conference started to take in some sights and to run in the Boston Run to Remember 5 Mile race. It was such a nice weekend (minus the first day---when I was freezing). I got into the hotel fairly early and was able to get a room (thank goodness) and freshen up. I spent the rest of the day picking up my race gear and walking around the city. I took a historical tour of the Freedom Trail and learn a ton about Boston history. I walked through the Commons and since it was Memorial Day Weekend, they filled a field in the park with 37,000 US flags to represent the number of men and women who have died in combat. It was a very touching memorial.
Sunday morning was race day. It was such a beautiful day and such a great feeling of support. There were thousands of people there to support police members who have lost their lives as well as men and women in combat. I loved the course, it was a great way to see downtown Boston. I realized that everyone in Boston is a legit runner----and they run fast. I ended up getting done a lot earlier then I had thought, so that was great too. After the race, I up with some friends to head to Fenway Park to catch a baseball game. It was so much fun. I really liked the Park and the game was pretty exciting as well. It was so nice to be in the sun, with friends, eating peanuts and hamburgers.
The conference ended up going really well----I was so busy with meetings, presentations and getting to know colleagues. We had some fantastic speakers: Malcom Gladwell, Caroline Kennedy and Shiza Shahid. It was pretty inspiring to hear them speak.
During the opening reception, they had local mascots...and of couse I ran into a Patriot:
Before heading out for the week, Friend and I hit up America's oldest restaurant. So that was pretty darn cool too.
