Adventuring in Vegas with two Grandmas and Britney B*tch

Way back in mid-May, friend S and I were randomly texting back and forth when we got the brilliant idea of booking an end of summer trip to Vegas. Right then and there (as you so often have the privilege of doing, thanks to copious amounts of travel points), we booked hotel and flights and tickets to see Britney Spears.

Because you can't go to Vegas and not see Britney....what would be the point? Don't judge. That pop princess has totally made a successful comeback.*

After what seemed like months of waiting, it was finally time to reunite with friend S and take on the Vegas strip.

Now, I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Vegas. I'm not Vegas material. I don't have club clothes. (I don't even know if I'm sure of what those are anymore). I'm not a big drinker, I don't really know how to gamble (other then pushing the button on the slot machines) and I really like to sleep early.
(Spoiler alert: It's lemonade. Technically from Hooters...so you know, edgy lemonade)

Throwing me in the middle of Vegas, during the heat of the summer? Crazy talk, but with our schedules, it's hard to get in some "me time" during the height of travel season.

It happened to be like a million degress out, so where did we find ourselves most of the time:

Poolside at the fantastic Palms Hotel. It was glorious and wonderful and so sunny and warm. Loved it. It was so nice to just relax for a few hours before the insanity of the travel season began. We were lucky, the hotel wasn't that busy while we were there, so the pool had lots of space to spread out. If I could just have a pool like that in CA, I'm not sure I would ever leave!

The first night we were in town, we found ourselves at a show involving Australians (No. Not Thunder from Down Under) and had a lot of fun walking around old Vegas. Friend S and I travel a lot together for work, but it was so much more fun having no responsibility and just getting to hang out. We even tried to win big bucks and if by big bucks, you mean 75 cents....Then we sure did take home a jackpot.

(Note: Friend S won like 7 dollars at one point (but lost it) I just kept loosing. I highly suggest not picking slot machines based on their themes. Dolly Parton, Wizard of Oz, Orca whales or cats....whatever it is, don't get sucked in by commercialism or the cuteness.)

The next night, we grabbed dinner at Serendipity 3, of the NYC fame and had their frozen hot chocolate (totally hit the spot) and the biggest grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever seen. FYI: look at the size of that menu.

Finally, it was time to experience the Brit.

Now, I'm not going to lie or hide it. I loved Britney Spears in High School. I loved her when it wasn't cool (clearly nothing has changed). And getting to see her in concert, in our 30's was definitely like living a 90s Teen girl dream. I never saw her in her prime (or, I guess our prime) but it was actually a really fun night out.

Yes, she lip syncs the entire time-----we all always knew Britney was a dancer first, singer second, but the show featured all of her greatest hits and the staging was gorgeous. Who wouldn't enjoy a night of singing songs of your youth...no matter how cheesy those songs...or that artist may be. The backup dancers were pretty fantastic too. Lots of talent on that stage and the night was totally worth it just for the nostalgia.

After riding the high of a fun night out, Friend S and I did a bit of googling---we found out that Britney loves a sushi/Pervuian fusion restaurant called Sushi Samba---and eats there a lot. I swear we weren't stalking....but both of us love sushi, so why not head there for lunch before flying out?

Totally worth it. The food was amazing! I usually don't enjoy sushi fusion places. Sushi is good enough with out having to mix it with something else....but this place was really good. Friend S told the waiter, who then told the manager that we heard about it from BS at the concert (we didn't, we heard about it after we stalked google the night before, but alas) The staff was so friendly to us after that. The manager even gave us a  one of Brit's favorite dishes----a sea bass skewer. And it was amazing.

I continue to dream about that sushi and would go back to Vegas just to eat there again.

*I'm not sure what the definition of "successful comeback" is, but she's making a crap ton of money on this Vegas show, so clearly, Britney wins again.
